The first exchange visit to test a combined route revealed a strong potential for development of alternative tourism in the Romanian area of the region of Silistra - Calarasi. The implementation of the practical activities under the project "One Cross-Border Region - One European Destination", financed by CBC program Romania - Bulgaria 2007 - 2013, started. The first three-day event - a visit to study the joint tourist route - was realized in the period May 12th to 14th. So far during the two training seminars and with the support of companies - contractors, the partners were consulted and prepared 6 routes /4 combined and 2 specialised/, so by the time spring came and theoretical work to be tested. Therefore, the project team invited 20 Bulgarians - representatives of tour operators, local authorities and NGOs, owners of guest houses, family hotels and attractions - to personally assess what Romanian colleagues and to propose what to be included in future tourism product.

The Bulgarian representatives were pleased with what they saw and the three-day visit finished with a clear unified position during work activities: Yes, Calarasi County partners have extensive potential and are able to develop at European level in a year or two after completion of road communications. But what is the status on the other side of the Danube, Silistra District. Is it possible to form a real destination for alternative tourism. For this, the Romanians who are preparing for a return visit by the end of autumn will express their opinion.
