The 51 was introduced in 1970, the Model 51 was a gas-operated semi-automatic shotgun. designed by the late James Tollinger. In 1971, several 12-gauge configurations were available including: standard, deluxe, trap, skeet and vent ribbed barrels. By 1973 the Deerslayer and Magnum Models were introduced, and 20-gauge was also available in 1973.
The Model 51 first appears as a 2 3/4 inch 12-gauge in the 1970 Ithaca gun Co. catalogue, offered in Standard $164.95, Standard vent rib $194.95, Trap $199.95 and Skeet 197.95. Jan 26, 2004 · The guys at the gun shop said that there were two ejector rods that were broken inside the gun and that it would be pretty much worthless because of the problem. They said that these ejector rods were a major problem on the 51's and that they stopped making them because of this and that shops stopped buying back used ones because of the problem. You have to push the carrier release each time. However, it should extract shell from chamber every time, and not double feed. May be a problem there.IThaca Model 51 Feed Problem.
