„Military tomb 1916” Memorial complex

Memorial complex „Military tomb 1916” is the largest military cemetery from the wars for national unification of the territory of Bulgaria.
On September 5^th and 6^th 1916, the Tutrakan fortress, considered till then impregnable, was conquered after a powerful artillery preparation and attack from the third Bulgarian army. Nearly 8,000 people were killed in the fighting - Romanians, Bulgarians, Germans and Turks. Immediately after the battle, the Memorial Complex „Military Tomb – 1916“ was built, ossuary of nearly 8,000 soldiers of different nationalities.  A monument was built in 1922 - an obelisk preserved until today, on which in Bulgarian, Romanian, German and Turkish language is written "Honor and glory to those who have died heroically for their homeland"
