The church was founded on July 25, 1648 by Matei Basarab. It was restored in 1900 by king Carol, as in 1937 the church was fully repaired by king Carol ІІ. It represents an architectural monument of national historic importance. Its keeper was lord George, ex second former treasurer of the county Sima. There was likely a monastery In Cornatel, as evidenced by documentary materials. Thus, in 1778, "Iovoc of the Cornatel monastery” was certified. The church St. Nestor was restored in 1900 and 1937, as in 1937 it was fully repaired by king Carol II.
