The church was built in 1620 according to the Gregorian calendar (1069 according to the Armenian chronology). The first name of the church was "Surp Krikor Lusavorich" (St. Gregory educator). The dome of the church is unique with its frescoes - something rare in the Armenian churches. The walls have picture icons, painted with oil paints. At the top of the north and south walls of the central room are situated orifices. They are arranged in a specific way to create acoustics of the church.
