The cathedral temple is built after the Crimean War by masters of the leading for that period Dryanovska School of Architecture.
In 2001, during his visit to Bulgaria, Pope John Paul II gave to the Christian community in Silistra part of the sacred relics of St. Dassia Dorostolski. The relics (bones of the right shoulder) are placed in a marble sarcophagus-box, which is kept in the Church “St. Peter and Paul”. These are the only found authentic relics of a saint-martyr of the early Christian times, whose name is known.
