The museum was built between 1923-1924, as a branch of the Romanian National Bank in the city of Silistra. The exposition covers an area of 400 sq. m. Monuments from the prehistoric, ancient and medieval periods are exposed there. There are unique exhibits among them such as Roman stone sundial, the largest ever found in the Bulgarian lands, Roman sports helmet-mask, depicted griffins, finds of precious metals from the Roman and medieval eras, Chariot - burial of a noble Roman magistrate by the end of III century, only in the former Roman lands, statue of Roman girl type „puditsitia“, made in Dorostorum, column with the name of Khan Omurtag, gold jewelry for princesses (Despotitsa and Despina) of Drastar from XIV century, coin collections and treasures from IV century BC. to XV century., one of the largest collections of medieval crosses of X-XIII century, etc.
