Funded by the CBC Programme “Romania-Bulgaria 2007-2013"
The project partners are: «Alliance for Regional and Civil Initiatives (ARCI)»-Silistra Branch, Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture – Calarasi /CCIA – Calarasi/ and Association for Cross-Border Cooperation and Development „Danube Dobrudja” (ACBCD).
Main objective: To strengthen cooperation among the main stakeholders in the tourism sector to jointly elaborate a cross-border tourist product, promoting the area Silistra District - Calarasi County as a destination for alternative tourism;
Specific objectives:
· Strengthening cross-border cooperation and networking in the sector of alternative tourism;
· Developing and marketing of a joint tourist product of the area Silistra-Calarasi;
· Promoting the image of the region Silistra-Calarasi as a joint destination for alternative tourism, based on the local advantages;
The project main stakeholders are: Romanian and Bulgarian tour-operator companies, managers of restaurants, guest houses and hotels, water sports and cycling clubs, and non-governmental organizations supporting the development of tourism. During the project activities these potential participants together with representatives of local and regional authorities will jointly develop a tourist product which attractively presents the region Silistra-Calarasi as a destination for alternative tourism.
The project plans to develop the following products: ‘Study and mapping of the tourist sites and resources’, ‘Commonmarketing strategy and identification of marketing gaps’, a web portal and web-based trilingual tourist information system. Another important task is to organize and conduct three promotional events: a Danube rowing tour, a cycling tour along the river and a promotional bus tour for journalists. The project also publishes attractive publicity materials both on paper and electronically, among which a large-size photo album to showcase the tourist potential of the cross-border region. Such initiatives aim to encourage the local companies to provide water and cycling tourist attractions on both sides of the Danube.
Due to the project activities a valuable information and photo collection will be compiled, which attractively presents the potential for tourism development in the Danube area. This collection will bring into focus the unique cultural, historical and natural heritage of Silistra – Calarasi cross-border region.
In 2011 the project will offer various tourist initiatives to the local residents and visitors that will strengthen cross-border cooperation among companies, administration and visitors in the sector of alternative tourism.
Expected results:
· Strengthened cooperation and networking among 30 Silistra and Calarasi tourist companies and relevant institutions through study-visit exchanges, two joint seminars, a conference on experience exchange and three joint promotional events in the region Silistra-Calarasi;
· Sustainable products to be used for other project initiatives:
